December 16th—Grand Finale day at SF Arts Market

Posted on Monday, December 20th, 2010.

UN Plaza was not short of smiles and good vibes last Thursday. December 16th marked the last Market Thursday for SF Arts Market for the year. It proved to be a full day of merrymaking with great art, entertainment and tasty food for all that joined, whether a participant, attendee or someone serendipitously passing through. Included in the day was a full market of unique art, crafts and ‘insta’ poems for sale and free performance throughout the afternoon. Amongst the day’s entertainers were sultry latin-pop by Joan Cerqueiro, funky blues by Bohemian Knuckleboogie, dance by bay area sensations Turf Feinz—inventors of the new dance movement ‘Turfing’, Bay Area Flash Dance Mob busting out to a Jackson medley during lunch, and modern dance throughout the Plaza with live violin.

Since mid-August, artists, artisans, performers, poets, nonprofits, and a variety of mobile food trucks have been convening in UN Plaza for SF Arts Market every Thursday. The Market has come together through a partnership between Independent Arts & Media (Indy Arts) and the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development. Focusing on supporting the arts community and invigorating UN Plaza through a creative and supportive environment, SF Arts Market is one of several initiatives in San Francisco intending to create ripples of positive change in the mid-Market region through arts and community.

See You in 2011!

SF Arts Market looks forward to coming back in spring of 2011 with continued efforts to support local artists, artisans and performers with an affordable open-air venue, plus support the community and region.  Stay tuned for news and highlights next year about the second year for Arts Market in UN Plaza.

Until then, best wishes for peace, prosperity and warmth for the coming year!!
